Library

At Athelstane Public School, our library and technology centre provides a stimulating collaborative learning space for our students and teachers.

It is an open plan space that allows for flexible timetabling enabling more than one class to utilise the resources available at any one time. We have a fabulous collection of fiction and non-fiction books available to the students, with new titles being acquired all the time to extend and enhance students' recreational reading. We also have an extensive teachers reference collection, including big books and multiple copies of novels for use in the classroom.

The library space is also at the centre of the school's technology learning. There is a 'connected classroom' giving us access to an interactive whiteboard and video conferencing facilities. We also have iMac computers, iPads and Chromebooks. Technology is used extensively by the students for information retrieval and in the creation of multimedia presentations and the use of the latest web 2.0 tools such as wikis, blogs and podcasting. Teaching and learning in the computer lab is supported by the use of an interactive whiteboard and data projector.

Student Borrowing

Students may borrow weekly during their class library time. They may also borrow at lunchtimes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A cloth bag is required to borrow books.  Library bags with the school logo are available for $2.00 from the school office.

Books may be borrowed for up to 2 weeks at a time. Students with overdue books will not be allowed to borrow until all books are returned. A reminder notice is sent home for books long overdue requesting, that books be returned either immediately or paid for if lost or damaged.
